Heart specialist in Nottingham and the East Midlands
Dr Fazal is an experienced consultant cardiologist based in Nottinghamshire. He has expertise in the diagnosis and management of patients with:
Chest pain and angina
Breathlessness and heart failure
Heart valve disorders e.g aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation
Palpitations, heart rhythm disorders, atrial fibrillation (AF)
Blackouts (syncope), POTS, feints
His sub specialist interests include palpitations, heart rhythm disorders, pacemakers/defibrillators and heart failure.
He sees patients from all over the East Midlands including Mansfield, Newark, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Grantham, Lincoln and beyond.
Education and Training
Dr Fazal grew up in Nottingham, graduated from Birmingham University in 2002 and worked in Birmingham, Newcastle, and Nottingham prior to starting specialist cardiology training in Newcastle and Middlesbrough.
He completed a period of research in remote monitoring of pacemakers and defibrillators at the Freeman Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne.
Dr Fazal undertook sub specialist training at the Freeman Hospital in advanced heart failure, cardiac transplant assessment, rhythm disorders, and complex device therapy for heart failure (pacemakers, ICD, CRT-D). He has published papers on heart failure, defibrillators, and heart rhythm disorders.
NHS Consultant Appointment
Dr Fazal was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist with an interest in Heart Failure and Pacing at Sherwood Forest Hospitals (King’s Mill and Newark Hospital) in 2014. He is the clinical lead for heart failure in the trust and has overseen a reduction in heart failure mortality since commencing the post. He has increased implantation rates of pacemakers, and in particular more complex devices such as ICD, CRT-D, CRT-P that are used for the treatment of heart failure.
